wedding elements

There are many skills necessary to photograph a wedding day however they fall into two main elements. First there is the candid photograph, also known as photojournalism. This involves constant searching for the fleeting moment with an eye for the emotion and life of the day. The ability to remain relatively unobtrusive and to take rapid fire compositions are key. Secondly there is the ability to take formal portraiture which requires a certain amount of control and an eye for the artful setting. It also involves rapport so that pictures come off looking natural and relaxed. Both aspects of photography are necessary.

The above picture was taken after the ceremony and group formals with myself and the couple spending some time walking the grounds to find the perfect romantic settings.

Winter weddings

A winter wedding can be a lot of fun. It is true that there is a wedding season. This being typically late spring, summer and autumn. However all seasons are great for wedding pictures. The key is to take advantage of the season and what it has to offer. This wedding was photographed in Providence, Rhode Island at the Biltmore Hotel. When discussing the planning for the wedding it came up in passing that there was an ice rink outside the hotel. Immediately it was realized that this would make a beautiful setting for pictures. So, in spite of the cold we went outside to take, what I deem to be, the best shots of the day.
