a balanced eye
As an event and wedding photographer one must be alert and in the moment. Anticipation of the candid moment is key. However one must also be alert to good locations and imagery that create artful portraits as well. This combination of the candid and the artful portrait is what I call the "balanced eye".
Though candid memories are always the best as people are shown as they naturally are, it is also important to be able to recognize and direct action when it comes to good portraiture. I always work with the bride and groom to determine exactly what their needs are. Throughout the day one must be a good photojournalist and at other times a traditionalist; and the photographer must be able to balance his style to the exact desires of the client.
Whatever style one is operating in, the key is being in the moment.
